Please don’t outsource THIS to AI

I’m writing this from Dallas, where I’m spending a few days at an AI conference.

And yes, I am an AI geek. 😂

I think what AI can do for firms is incredible. I use it every day, and I’m going to be rolling out some new trainings to help our Estate and Elder Law firms use it even better.

But the more I learn about AI, the more convinced I am of something else:

We have to be careful not to outsource the very things that make us good at what we do.

There’s actually a new term floating around called “workslop.”

It’s AI-generated work that looks finished and polished, but when you really dig into it, there isn’t much substance underneath.

You’ve probably seen it.

The beautifully written email that doesn’t really say anything.

The marketing copy that could belong to any law firm in America.

The strategy that looks impressive until someone asks, “Okay, but WHY are we doing this?”

And that’s where I think the real danger of AI lies.

AI makes it incredibly easy to produce something without really thinking through it.

For Estate and Elder Law attorneys, that matters.

Your value isn’t simply knowing what documents someone needs. It’s understanding the family sitting across from you.

It’s recognizing the question they aren’t asking.

It’s knowing from years of experience when something doesn’t quite add up.

It’s judgment. Context. Empathy. Experience.

AI can help you research faster, brainstorm ideas, draft content, summarize information, improve processes and eliminate a ridiculous amount of busywork.

Let it.

But don’t hand over the thinking.

I think the firms that win in the AI era will be the ones that figure out that balance.

Use AI to become faster and more efficient, while becoming even more human where it matters.

That’s something I’m thinking about a LOT while I’m here in Dallas.

And it’s going to be a big part of the new AI training I’ll be bringing to you soon.

Because the goal isn’t to have AI do everything.

The goal is to use AI to create more time and space for the things only YOU can do.
