It’s Expo & Community Event Season – Here’s How to Work It

Amber and I are in full expo mode right now – we’re juggling spreadsheets, dropshipping merch to the venue, and checking (then double-checking) our event checklists. We’ll be in Seattle on May 6th for NAELA, and if you’re attending, please stop by our booth to say hi!

Meanwhile, many of our clients are deep into their spring seminar sweeps and community events. It got me thinking – with all the time, energy, and yes, money that goes into these expos, it’s crucial to make sure you’re getting real ROI from your efforts.

So let’s talk about how to be the booth that everyone remembers (for all the right reasons):

  • Be Strategic About Lead Collection
  • You don’t have to be pushy with a hard pitch, but you absolutely must be collecting leads. Otherwise, why are you there? Have a clear system for capturing contact information from everyone who stops by your table.
  • Create an Irresistible Raffle
  • Forget generic gift baskets! Your raffle item needs to be something your specific prospects actually want. Put yourself in their shoes – what would make YOU stop and share your contact info? For parents, maybe it’s dinner for two at the nicest restaurant in town. For exhausted healthcare professionals, perhaps a wine basket or spa gift certificate. Business pros? Consider a night at a venue like Top Golf.
  • Make Your Table Magnetic
  • Brochures spread out on a table aren’t enough to draw people in. What eye-catching elements will make them stop? Is it high-quality branded merchandise they’ll actually use? Interactive displays? Even something as simple as premium candy can be the perfect conversation starter.

Remember, the right approach depends entirely on your audience. The senior expo requires different tactics than the local business fair. Know who you’re targeting and tailor your entire presence to appeal specifically to them.
