How vs. Who

I see it all the time. We have a goal and we want to learn exactly “how” to accomplish it. It’s not always the best use of our time to know every skill set needed to carry out every detail of the implementation of the goal. And it typically leads to analysis paralysis and goals simply not being attained.

Learning skills that don’t require “us” to do and then chasing bright shiny objects takes us down rabbit holes. This sucks time away from doing the things “that only we can do,” and even worse, time that could be spent with our families.

Instead of trying to figure out the “how,” shift the mindset to “who.”

“Who” on your team has the time and the skill set, or the desire to learn the skill set, to do the task.

“Who” in your network does this every day so you wouldn’t have to deal with a learning curve or management?

Think of the “who” method as a gas pedal on your productivity.

So, the next time you’re stuck, take a breath. Ask “who?” instead of “how?”
