A quick story from this week…

I want to share a quick story from this week.

I was talking with a firm owner who came back from the holidays fired up. New year, fresh start, big goals. We were about ten minutes into the conversation when they paused and said something like:

“I feel like I should be doing more… but I’m not even sure what I should be doing.”

And then they laughed. The kind of laugh that’s half relief, half exhaustion.

Here’s the thing. There was nothing wrong with their firm. They had good visibility. Solid referrals. Past events that worked. A newsletter people actually opened.

But January had convinced them that if they weren’t adding something new, they were falling behind.

So we didn’t add anything.

Instead, we looked at what already worked. Where leads actually came from. Where follow-up broke down. What was getting attention without draining their team.

By the end of the call, the energy completely shifted. Not because we built a massive plan… but because we removed the noise.

This happens more than people admit.

January has a way of making smart, capable attorneys feel like they’re already behind. Like everyone else has it figured out. Like momentum requires constant motion.

It doesn’t.

Most of the growth you want this year will come from tightening what already exists. Cleaning up follow-up. Making the next step clearer. Sounding more human in your communication. Supporting your team instead of stretching them thinner.

Nothing flashy. Nothing overwhelming. Just intentional progress.

If this week feels loud, that’s normal. You don’t need to react to it. You can choose clarity instead.

We’ll keep walking through this together.

P.S. If you find yourself thinking “we should really fix that at some point,” that’s usually your cue. Those small moments are where the biggest gains live.
